Making Packaging with Poinsettia Petals

Updated: Nov 12

The Poinsettia Petals bundle makes the most beautiful gift packaging! You can use it to make all sorts of containers. Here we are making bag toppers, gift tags, and a gift box. You'll be surprised at how easy all of these are. Add this fun gift box to your arsenal of projects. Of course, as always, you can change the dimensions to make them any size you want. YouTube tutorial can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33jXiS4EMiA.

Ingredients: For half circle bag topper: Heartwarming Hugs DSP, Pear Pizzazz cardstock, whisper white cardstock; real red ink; layering circles dies; Poinsettia Petals stamp set; stampin' seal or liquid glue; Stampin' Cut and Emboss Machine.

For tag: Heartwarming Hugs DSP, Shimmery White, Real Red and Pear Pizzazz cardstocks; Poinsettia dies; Gilded Gems; bone folder; stampin' seal or liquid glue, glue dots, and Stampin; dimensionals; Stampin' Trimmer; Stampin' Cut and Emboss Machine.

For box: Whisper White (2 full sheets) and Real Red cardstocks; Real Red, Crushed Curry, Old Olive and Soft Suede inks; Poinsettia dies; Poinsettia Petals stamps; tear and tape, stampin' dimensionals, and glue dots; Gilded Gems; Simply Scored; paper snips; bone folder.

Recipe:

For half circle bag topper: Use the largest scallop die to cut out a scalloped circle from the pear pizzazz cardstock. Use the second largest circle die to cut out a circle from the Heartwarming Hugs DSP. Use the fourth largest circle to cut out a circle from the whisper white. Score each circle in the middle. Stamp happy holidays on the bottom half of the white circle using real red. Adhere the whisper white to the DSP and the DSP to the pear pizzazz using stampin' seal or liquid glue. Fold in half and adhere to a small bag filled with treats using staples or brads or anything else you want.

For the tag: Cut a piece of real red at 4.5x3" and score at 2.25". Cut a piece of Heartwarming Hugs at 2x3 and layer on the front of the read red. Using a piece of shimmery white, Poinsettia dies, and the Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine, die cut out all three petals, with the die on the outside and the embossing piece nestled inside to cut out and dry emboss at the same time. Curl the petals on all three flowers using your bone folder. Using two glue dots per layer, layer the three flowers from largest (bottom layer) to smallest (top layer), adding each flower askew to the previous layer. Add a gilded gem in the middle. Using the poinsettia dies, die cut both leaves, again with the die on the outside and the embossing piece nestled inside to cut out and dry emboss at the same time. Put two glue dots on the top of the leaves at the bottom, and attach to the flower from underneath. Put at least three dimensionals on the back of the flower and attach to the tag.

For the box: Cut one whisper white piece to 8.25x7". Using Simply Scored, score all four sides at 1.25". This is the bottom of the box. Cut the other whisper white piece to 6.5x8". Using Simply Scored, scored all four sides at 1". This is the top of the box.

Stamp different stamps in different colors all over the top of the bottom of the box, stamping some stamps partly on and partly off. You can stamp some second generation (without reinking) or third generation. Stamp Happy Holidays in the bottom right corner of the top of the top of the top box. Along the two long sides of each piece of whisper white, cut into the box along the scored line to the perpendicular scored line. Cut a small triangle out by cutting at an angle to meet at the top slightly to the side of the first cut, making sure that the small cut out triangle is on the outside flap. Fold and burnish all the score lines. Put a small piece of tear and tape, or stampin' seal+, on the front of each of the flaps. Fold the flaps inside the long sides, creating a box top/bottom and pressing the sides together. Make sure not to make the top too small as it needs to fit over the bottom. Cut out and emboss all three poinsettia petals out of real red cardstock. Curl all three petals using your bone folder. Using two glue dots per layer, layer the petals on each other, placing each layer askew from the previous layer. Place a gilded gem in the center of the flower. Adhere the flower to the top of the box using stampin' dimensionals. Add more gilded gems.

This box holds 3-5 cards plus envelopes. You can change the box size by changing the dimensions. For example, if you want it 1" larger, simply add 1" to each side of the top and the bottom. If you want it 1"deeper, add 1" to the bottom of the box in both directions, and score at 2", but keep all other dimensions the same.
